What is The Role We're looking for a Principal Software Engineer to join the Observability Experience Team as one of the Tech Leads. As part of this team you will work at the intersection of big data engineering, backend architecture, and experiences (including graphical UX, UX embedded in chat interfaces and AI agent oriented interfaces) to help users obtain the best insights from their Observability signals, especially logs, metrics and traces. What You Will Be Doing Collaborate with product management, product design and multiple teams across Elastic in defining and evolving the end-to-end experiences for Observability. Be a contact point for other teams within Elastic. Examples include helping Support with difficult cases or aligning with the teams providing the foundations for developing integrations or consulting the Elastic Stack engineers with designing new features. Be hands-on with the codebase. Review work done in the team, and provide constructive feedback to engineers Help the team define coding practices and standards. Foster a culture of mutual respect, collaboration and consensus based decision-making Stay true to the principles of software development as adopted by our team Be an awesome person to work with, somebody who sincerely empathizes with others What You Bring Experience leading technical projects in the data and enterprise architecture areas. You bring a proven knowledge in building and running sophisticated technical infrastructures and engineering sound software systems. Hands-on experience using and developing Observability tools, preferably in the Logs space. Experience mentoring expert engineers, providing technical and professional guidance. Experience defining a long term technical vision for an area of a data-intensive application, working across teams and organizations to collaboratively build the technical roadmap. Working with a high level of autonomy, able to tackle projects and guide them from beginning to end. This covers both technical design and working with other engineers to develop needed components.
